What it Means to be a Good Citizen by Matthew

Matthew came home from school SUPER excited the other day. He explained that his 4th grade class was assigned an essay about being a good citizen. The teacher then chose the best 6 from his class of 30. Those 6 essays were read to the class and then the class voted for the top 2. Matthew had been named one of the top 2! What did this mean? He was asked to read his essay during the Patriotic Assembly in front of the entire school (600+ students) along with teachers, people from the community who had been or currently were in the armed services, parents and the local Lions Club. In addition to reading his essay, he was chosen to present the colors with his Cub Scout Pack at the start of the assembly. Two times at the microphone... He was ecstatic to say the least.

Today was the assembly. Bill and I attended with digital camera and video camera in hand and sat in the front row. We were the epitome of the proud parent. Matthew didn't have a nervous bone in his body. His cute gruff voice and speed reading made it a little hard to understand at times, but he did great! He was even a little comical at the end when the audience tried to end the speech prematurely. What a kid!!!
